Meet Kelli T

Kelli Thompson is a life-long learner who values education and curiosity.

 

Dr. Kelli Thompson is an Assistant Research Professor and Director of the Juvenile Delinquency Lab in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Auburn University. Kelli holds degrees from Auburn University in Human Development and Family Studies, a Master's of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary, and a doctorate in Applied Developmental Psychology from the University of New Orleans. Her work with delinquent and detained youth has fostered a deep passion for the public policy issues facing justice-involved youth.

Kelli believes in the power of civic engagement and philanthropy.
​

Kelli currently serves on the board of and volunteers for several local advocacy groups. In Lee County, Kelli serves on the board of the Auburn-area PFLAG chapter, where she works for inclusion in our community through support, education, and advocacy.  This particular local chapter, which she helped found in 2016, received an award for Outstanding Community Organization from the Auburn University Office of Inclusion and Diversity in 2019.

 

She wants to give back by harnessing this knowledge and expertise as the next 
City Council Representative for Opelika's 3rd Ward!

As a first time home-owner, Kelli chose Opelika's Historic District for its charm and beauty. However, the warm and welcoming spirit of the community leads her to give back. She intends to reflect this same spirit of the city with the characteristic grace, openness, and professionalism for which she has become known.
